We are very pleased to announce that the Department of Social Protection will be joining us at Jobs Expo Cork on 25th May 2017.
The Department of Social Protection supports the Minister for Social Protection with governmental, parliamentary and departmental duties. Their main functions are:
The Department serves a wide and diverse group of clients. This includes employed as well as unemployed people. However, they also work with families, people with disabilities, carers and pensioners. They administer over 70 different schemes and services. Consequently, the Department impacts the lives of almost everyone in Ireland.
Intreo is a new service from the Department of Social Protection. It is a single point of contact for employment and income support. Therefore, it provides a streamlined approach. As a result, Intreo offers practical, tailored employment services and supports for both jobseekers and employers.
EURES is the European Job Mobility Portal. It is a network that facilitates the free movement of workers across the EU, Switzerland, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway. They also provide specific information and help employers and workers fill and find roles.
The Department helps also jobseekers gain new skills through training or education. It does this through providing courses for the unemployed. These include the Springboard+ and Momentum courses amongst others. In addition, the Department also offers back to education supports and training support grants.
