Why Work in the Patient Advocacy Service?

The Patient Advocacy Service provides support for people who wish to make a complaint about the care they have received in a Public Acute Hospital or Nursing Home. Their team of professional Advocates aim to make a difference to the lives of people in society who may have faced challenging, traumatic experiences and empower them to speak out and have their voice heard.

The Service provides a range of benefits for its staff members that promote continual professional development and work-life balance. They provide a professional, positive and friendly environment where people can enjoy a rewarding working experience.

Career Benefits

A new employee opinion survey, conducted by Jobs Expo, has revealed that 42% of people have been badly affected by the cost of living. Furthermore, 41% would consider moving to an area where there are lower costs even though they would be reluctant to do so.

Salary still ranks highest as a factor when applying got a job with 38% finding it the most important aspect to them when searching for a new role. This is followed by good working environment, which 24% found the most important to them. And when it comes to proximity to home 14% find it the most important factor when applying for a new job. These rankings have not changed amongst Galwegians since our last survey in September 2022.

The survey also paints a picture of what the main concerns facing workers in the current climate are, with the top 3 responses being linked to the current financial and economic situation.

Concerns for Workers

The three biggest concerns for professionals surveyed right now are:

It’s interesting to note that back in September 2019 recession was listed as a concern by under a third of respondents (26.89%), while only 15.97% listed the Housing crisis as a concern. In 2019, Brexit was marked as a cause for concern for 19.33% of workers surveyed.

Remote Work is here to stay

The study found that two thirds of workers listed the importance of a flexible hybrid work model as being a decisive factor when taking up employment in a post-Covid world.

Prior to Covid-19, fully remote work was at 9.89%. Jobs Expo’s latest survey shows us that now it's 15.73%. Full-time in the office in September 2019 was 51.65%. Today, it's 32.58%.

Mental Health Support

A worrying outcome from the survey was the high number of workers expressing concern for their mental health. When asked if their mental health has suffered because of pressure/problems at work 60.61% of respondents answered yes (down fro  73.86% from last year's survey, while 39.39% said no.

Only 27.50% felt that they were adequately supported by their employer, compared to 72.50% of professionals who believed they were not supported.

Career Progression

42% are currently employed, but actively seeking a new position with 57% having 5+ years' experience within their sector. When applying for a job 34% have sat three interviews, 26% sat through two, 25% for one and 14% have sat over three interview for one role.

48% find multiple interviews to be overwhelming and turn them off the role.

51% are satisfied with their CV, 65% haven't had their CV evaluated by a professional career coach and 66% would be interested in having their CV evaluated.
