Good news for jobseekers based in the Northwest. Phibro Animal Health Corporation has announced plans to establish a biotech facility in Sligo. This new plant will be based in the IDA Ireland Finisklin Business Park, and create up to 150 jobs over 5 years.
Phibro manufactures and markets animal health and nutrition products for poultry, swine, cattle, dairy and aquaculture customers. Last year, the company had $764 million in sales in over 65 countries. Employing 1,400 people globally, Phibro is a publicly traded company headquartered in Teaneck, New Jersey, United States. This Sligo plant is the company’s first biologicals manufacturing location in Europe.
The new manufacturing facility will initially focus on producing Phibro’s line of vaccines for the treatment of a range of poultry diseases. However, there are future plans to expand production to include vaccines for livestock and aquaculture.
Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Michael Creed T.D, commented on Ireland’s Life Sciences capability in the North West. This project builds on a series of new IDA projects announced for Sligo and elsewhere in the region: ‘The Government is tirelessly working to achieve job creation in locations which are away from the main cities, and this new biotech facility in Sligo is testament that the policy is working.’
Jack Bendheim, Phibro’s Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer, commented, ‘The creation of Phibro Ireland marks an important milestone in our development as a leading global player in the animal health biological market.’
This jobs announcement for the region is one of many in recent months. Other companies setting up in the Northwest include Abtran, E3 Retail, and Live Tiles.
The roles being filled will include management, quality analysis, quality control, regulatory, engineering, operators, and maintenance staff. For more information, email hr.sligo@pahc.com.
