Good news for shoppers and retail workers! On Thursday 8 December, grocery giants Lidl announced 20 new jobs at their brand new store in Sallynoggin Avenue, Glenageary. This is Lidl’s 149th Irish store. The company now employs 4280 people in Ireland.
A unique feature of the new store's building is the green roof. Partially covered in vegetation, the green roof absorbs rainwater. This provides insulation as well as reduces the need for in-store drainage systems.
Speaking about the opening, Niall Murray, Regional Director at Lidl Ireland, said:
“We are delighted to be opening our 149th Lidl Ireland store just in time for Christmas. We have some fantastic offers in store to celebrate this opening and are really looking forward to welcoming our new customers to the store. The opening of our 36th Dublin store brings with it 20 new jobs for the area, reinforcing our commitment to local employment. We are thrilled to celebrate our store opening by making a number of charitable voucher donations to local organisations, such as Carmona Services Glenageary and Men’s Shed Dun Laoghaire. ”
Lidl works with over 180 Irish suppliers. As a result, they can bring the best fresh, local produce to its network of stores throughout the Republic of Ireland. In addition, Lidl Ireland invests €500 million per annum in sourcing Irish goods and services.
Lidl is an international business and global supermarket chain. Established in 1930 as a food wholesaler, their first discount supermarket opened in 1973. The company now operates over 10,000 stores in 30 countries across Europe.
